Modernized Fire & Gas System Improves India Gas Plant Safety

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), operator of the Hazira gas plant—the largest gas processing plant in India—needed to revamp its plant-wide electrical and Fire & Gas (F&G) system to ensure reliable safety data and uninterrupted availability during integration with the plant DCS. Infrastructure constraints required consolidating detectors into 11 fire substation alarm panels, and ONGC selected Honeywell to supply its F&G solutions, including Honeywell Safety Manager and integration with the existing Experion distributed control system.

Honeywell implemented Safety Manager along with eight fire alarm panels and extensive field equipment (174 optical smoke detectors, 204 rate-of-rise temperature detectors, 77 manual call points, and 63 sounders/beacons), fully integrating the F&G network with Experion. The Honeywell solution centralized monitoring in the control room, materially improved emergency response times, increased system availability and ease of maintenance, delivered cost savings through integrated design and a common warranty, and achieved timely startup through coordinated planning and execution by Honeywell.
