Case Study: Meridian Energy achieves centralized control and predictive asset monitoring with Honeywell

A Honeywell Case Study

Preview of the Meridian Energy Case Study

Meridian Energy Centralizes Control Room Operations

Meridian Energy, New Zealand’s largest state-owned electricity generator, faced aging hydro assets and the loss of on-site expertise as staff were centralized at a new control room. To upgrade plant-wide monitoring, maintain asset visibility and provide early warning of equipment deterioration, Meridian selected Honeywell to deliver an integrated Plant Asset Management (PAM) system.

Honeywell implemented a PAM solution—integrating Alarm Management, Asset Management, Control Performance Monitor and Operational Insight with Meridian’s historian and IBM Maximo—that provides real-time alarm/event visualization, mathematical diagnostic models, KPI dashboards and automated email notifications. The Honeywell system centralized all unit transformer condition monitoring, replaced manual data entry and multiple alarm printers, substantially increased visibility of transformer health, enabled prioritization of poor performers, and delivers earlier warnings and actionable recommendations to improve maintenance decisions.
