Koegel Meat - Customer Case Study

Koegel Meats, a 90‑year‑old maker of hardwood‑smoked hot dogs, sausages and lunch meats operating a 100,000 sq. ft. Flint, MI facility, faced major downtime and unreadable labels from an antiquated manual labeling process that required roll‑style date imprinters and separate pre‑printed labels for each product. Because the plant’s wash‑down cooler environment ruled out PC‑based systems, Koegel Meats selected Intermec by Honeywell PM4i Smart Printers (with ToolWorx SmartPack software and integration by Informs/ToolWorx) to replace the manual workflow and improve labeling and traceability.

Honeywell’s Intermec PM4i printers were installed at each production cell and tied into ToolWorx SmartPack and inline scales, enabling on‑demand printing for fixed‑ and random‑weight products, mobile cart deployment, and automated data capture. The new Honeywell solution streamlined changeovers, eliminated over‑printing and label waste, improved print legibility and inventory tracking, rolled out in weeks with quick staff adoption, and enabled accurate product‑level traceability from production to store.
