Keeping Rural Schools Safe – How One PA District Uses Technology to Make School Staff More Effective at Security

Penns Valley Area School District, a rural district in Spring Mills, PA, faced the challenge of securing four schools with no on-campus police and Pennsylvania State Police response times of 15–30 minutes. Superintendent Brian Griffith worked with integrator LowV Systems and vendor Honeywell to design an easy-to-operate security solution using Honeywell IP Cameras, MAXPRO VMS, Pro-Watch and the LobbyWorks Visitor Management System to give staff more control and situational awareness.

Honeywell’s integrated solution added over 200 new cameras across five buildings, tied video, access control and visitor management into the Pro-Watch management suite, and supported remote alerts and district-wide lockdowns (plus recommended mantraps at main entries). The deployment enabled instant notifications and centralized monitoring, helped identify vandalism and theft, improved family confidence in safety, and provides a scalable platform for future growth — demonstrating measurable operational and security improvements for the district.
