Integrated Fire Protection at Toromocho Minera Chinalco

Toromocho Minera Chinalco, Peru’s largest copper project, needed to meet stringent local and international fire-protection regulations while upholding a zero-accident policy, protecting its people and environment, and coping with complex logistics and extreme weather. Honeywell was selected to deliver a comprehensive, smart, integrated fire protection solution to address those safety, regulatory and operational challenges.

Honeywell designed, supplied, installed and commissioned a fully integrated system—including 24 XLS140/2 fire alarm control panels, network annunciators, an XLS-DVC Digital Voice Commander with Whelen mass notification, IG‑55 integration, linear fiber optic heat detection, nine automated water/foam deluge zones, and Experion Industrial Security Life Safety Manager software—operable from a single control center and remotely via VPN. The Honeywell solution reinforced plant safety, ensured compliance with regulations, reduced operational risk and total cost of ownership, and enabled the Toromocho project to begin operations on schedule in May 2014.
