A Honeywell Case Study
4PC, the security integrator on the project, teamed with Honeywell to protect a remote electrical generation and transmission facility that was vulnerable due to its unmanned location, antiquated perimeter fencing and exposure to threats including foot, vehicle and drone intrusions and the need to meet stringent NERC standards. Honeywell supplied a suite of technologies — including Pro-Watch, MAXPRO VMS, Vindicator intrusion detection, Notifier fire panels and HD IP/thermal cameras — as the foundation for the upgrade.
Honeywell implemented an integrated “virtual iron dome” by combining its systems with SpotterRF radar to provide GPS-cued camera coverage to 350 meters and blanket roughly 20 acres, with behavioral filters and thermal imaging that greatly reduce false alarms and enable 24/7 detection and verification. The solution centralized alarms and reporting for compliance, eliminated the need for on-site guards (saving about $500,000/year in staffing), improved operational monitoring of equipment, and allowed the site to exceed industry standards while serving as a template for other utilities.
