Improving Our World’s Mapping Systems With Highly Accurate Inertial Navigation Systems

Horus View and Explore, a Netherlands-based software developer and systems integrator, faced the challenge of delivering highly accurate mobile mapping for governments and emergency services in GNSS-denied environments such as urban canyons, bridges and forests. To overcome degraded or outdated geographic data and ensure reliable location for infrastructure maintenance and incident response, Horus selected Honeywell’s HGuide n580 inertial navigation system to strengthen its mobile mapping platform.

Honeywell’s HGuide n580 (featuring the HG4930 IMU, GNSS receiver and fusion software) was integrated with Horus’ sensor-fusion and mapping software to deliver continuous, high-accuracy position, orientation and timing even when GNSS is unreliable. The Honeywell solution yields measurable results — Horus reports location accuracy of about 10–20 centimeters in dense urban areas, improved reliability in harsh conditions, reduced need to re-capture imagery, and easier integration with cameras and LiDAR, enabling better asset maintenance and decision-making for city officials.
