Hosted Data Services Improve Gas Utility Operations

Spire, a natural gas utility in St. Louis, needed a reliable, easily accessible way to collect remote data from gas volume correctors and electronic recorders, obtain accurate consumption readings, and deliver alarms and real-time event notifications to field technicians. To meet those needs, Spire engaged Honeywell and adopted Honeywell’s Total Data Services (TDS), a hosted, subscription-based Data Collection and Delivery Service (DCDS).

Honeywell implemented its hosted TDS platform to deliver near real-time interval meter data, alarms, and system pressure information via a secure, user-friendly web portal and mobile delivery, with 24x7x365 access and Tier 3 data center reliability (OC12 SONET backbone and 99% uptime). The Honeywell solution reduced Spire’s IT labor and infrastructure costs, lowered day-to-day operating and maintenance expenditures, improved remote data collection and energy portfolio management, and enabled more accurate nominations and timely field notifications.
