Honeywell’s comprehensive fire protection for Uruguay’s largest pulp mill

Montes del Plata, Uruguay’s largest private-sector pulp mill, needed a comprehensive fire protection solution that would preserve its zero-accident safety culture, meet local and international fire regulations, protect strong environmental credentials and accommodate project schedule delays. Honeywell was selected, leveraging existing technologies on the site including Experion® PKS, Experion MX and Honeywell’s Process Information Management System, to deliver a full life‑safety and fire protection program.

Honeywell designed, supplied, installed, integrated and commissioned a fully integrated system — including 18 XLS-140 fire alarm control panels, over 400 initiating devices, 210 pull stations, aspirating detectors and the Enterprise Building Integrator (EBI) tied to Experion PKS — providing single‑panel supervision, earlier detection, improved situational awareness and simpler operator training. The solution met all regulatory requirements, reduced operational risk and total cost of ownership, and helped Montes del Plata start operations in June 2014.
