YPF S.A.’s Luján de Cuyo refinery — Argentina’s largest conversion refinery — faced a critical life‑safety challenge when its eight Honeywell XLS 1000 fire alarm control panels became obsolete and spare parts were no longer available. Because fire detection, suppression and mass notification were essential to employee safety, YPF engaged Honeywell to migrate the system to a modern platform, selecting the Honeywell XLS3000 (with Enterprise Buildings Integrator) to meet the refinery’s needs.

Honeywell replaced the XLS 1000 panels and associated field devices with XLS3000 intelligent FACPs, updated and integrated the EBI monitoring platform, configured and commissioned the new system, and provided staff training (conducted online during the pandemic). The migration was completed on time and within budget while units remained in service; Honeywell continues to provide ongoing support. The upgrade delivered greater system reliability, faster spare‑parts procurement, improved life‑safety assurance and operational peace of mind for YPF, enabling staff to focus on productive refinery operations.
