Honeywell provides state-of-the-art icss solution to repsol sines storage depot

Repsol Portuguesa’s Sines Storage Depot needed a state-of-the-art Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS)—including DCS, Emergency Shutdown (ESD) and Fire & Gas (F&G) at SIL 3—while minimizing total cost of ownership and integrating with the adjacent Repsol Polimeros site and a third‑party pipeline. Honeywell proposed its Experion® PKS solution to meet these requirements for the new depot, which adds 100 million liters of diesel and biofuel storage serving the Lisbon area.

Honeywell delivered a redundant, common‑supervisory ICSS based on Experion PKS with a joint Control Data Access database and Modbus TCP interfaces to integrate Repsol Polimeros, the pipeline and multiple third‑party subsystems (truck loading, tank level supervision, motorized valves). The integrated DCS/ESD/F&G system enables single‑system supervision from reception to dispatch, maintains SIL 3 safety integrity, lowers engineering and ongoing operational/maintenance costs, improves diagnostics and emergency response, and supports higher uptime and reduced integration cost for Repsol.
