Honeywell Inertial Navigation System Delivers Precise Location Accuracy

Aeroscout, a Lucerne, Switzerland–based unmanned helicopter services company, needed centimeter-level accuracy for powerline inspections, 3D mapping and other LiDAR-based surveying—often conducted in windy, GNSS-denied environments. To meet these demanding requirements Aeroscout selected Honeywell’s HGuide n580 inertial navigation system to provide precise rotation, orientation, position and acceleration information.

Honeywell delivered the HGuide n580 (HG4930 IMU + GNSS receiver with proprietary sensor fusion) and supported straightforward integration; the system provides time-stamped position, velocity, attitude and acceleration at high data rates and resists vibration and harsh weather. With Honeywell’s technical support, Aeroscout achieved data accuracy within a few centimeters, reliability better than the product data sheet, and fewer repeat flights thanks to consistently high-quality LiDAR and survey results.
