Honeywell Improves Gasoline Quality at LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez Refinery

Lukoil operates a major refinery in Kstovo, Russia, producing dozens of gasoline brands and exporting to Europe. Facing strict GOST quality standards and the need to improve marketable gasoline efficiency and profitability, Lukoil selected Honeywell’s Open Blend Property Control (OpenBPC) real-time blending optimization solution to automate and optimize blending recipes.

Honeywell implemented OpenBPC (project started in 2013 and completed in six months), integrated it with the refinery DCS, and provided local support and training to deploy real-time automatic recipe optimization. The Honeywell solution reduced costs for expensive high‑octane components like MTBE, lowered excessive octane in standard grades, increased specific product output to meet monthly targets, cut reblends, and improved controller loading by 35% after the C300 upgrade.
