Case Study: PhosAgro Cherepovets stabilizes process, increases ammonia yield and reduces power consumption with Honeywell Advanced Process Control

A Honeywell Case Study

Preview of the PhosAgro Case Study

Honeywell completed Russia's first advanced process control (APC) project in an ammonia production facility in PhosAgro Cherepovets

PhosAgro Cherepovets engaged Honeywell to carry out Russia’s first advanced process control (APC) project at Ammonia Plant No. 1. The goal was to stabilize the ammonia process, increase ammonia output and reduce specific power consumption by integrating APC software and hardware with the plant’s distributed control system.

Honeywell executed a staged delivery—plant survey and control strategy, functional and detailed design, building predictive models, configuring multiple APC controllers for reformers, converter and refrigeration unit, integrating with the DCS, training operators and on-site commissioning. The Honeywell APC deployment stabilized process operation, increased ammonia yield and reduced specific power consumption, meeting reliability and safety requirements during startup.
