A Honeywell Case Study
Andlauer Transportation Services Inc. (ATS), a Canadian freight-forwarding and cross-dock specialist, was rapidly outgrowing its Montreal depot and needed to increase throughput without adding space or large new labor costs. ATS partnered with Honeywell (via Honeywell Intelligrated) to deploy material-handling automation—including a high-speed sliding shoe sorter, Accuglide accumulation conveyors, scanners and PC-based control software—to meet tight, time‑critical pickup and delivery commitments.
Honeywell installed an integrated sortation and conveyor system in Montreal (with mirror systems in Vancouver and larger plans for Toronto), boosting sorter throughput from 2,500 pieces/hour to 8,400 pieces/hour at 350 fpm and delivering 99.4% accuracy. The Honeywell solution let ATS triple capacity (a 300% increase in daily volume), operate with 30% fewer personnel, and supported nationwide expansion, following roughly USD 3.6M for the Montreal system and about USD 9M invested in Honeywell automation overall.
