A Honeywell Case Study
Gunvor Raffinerie Ingolstadt, a 110,000 bpd inland refinery, faced UCN load overruns and HPM‑related alarms and slow displays that occasionally forced controllers into Manual, threatening operational efficiency during its planned 2017 turnaround. To modernize controls with minimal disruption, Gunvor Raffinerie Ingolstadt engaged Honeywell for an HPM to EHPM on‑process migration following a Honeywell Integrated Automation Assessment (IAA).
Honeywell implemented the on‑process migration by installing FTE infrastructure, migrating three HPMs within 24 hours and completing migrations on two UCNs during the turnaround — all without process shutdown or control reengineering. The EHPM upgrades preserved existing control logic and native displays, produced significant cost and risk reductions, improved reliability and operator experience, and positioned the refinery to migrate more than 15 HPMs by the end of 2017.
