Case Study: City of Port St. Lucie achieves $17M guaranteed savings, nearly $3M net gain and a 5.4M kWh/yr energy reduction with Honeywell

A Honeywell Case Study

Preview of the City of Port St. Lucie Case Study

Going green creates green in Port St. Lucie

The City of Port St. Lucie faced shrinking budgets, rising facility costs and a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so it selected Honeywell to deliver $7.1 million in facility and infrastructure improvements under an energy savings performance contract to cut energy use and protect municipal funds.

Honeywell surveyed more than 150 facilities and implemented 15+ energy conservation measures — building a chilled‑water plant with an ultra‑efficient frictionless chiller, upgrading lighting in 40+ sites and adding advanced controls. The work is expected to reduce electricity use by about 5.4 million kWh/year (enough to power 460 homes) and cut CO2 emissions equivalent to removing 730+ cars, with Honeywell guaranteeing $17 million in savings over 15 years and reimbursing the city for any shortfall while PSL expects nearly $3 million beyond the guarantee.
