A Honeywell Case Study
The City of Port St. Lucie faced shrinking budgets, rising facility costs and a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so it selected Honeywell to deliver $7.1 million in facility and infrastructure improvements under an energy savings performance contract to cut energy use and protect municipal funds.
Honeywell surveyed more than 150 facilities and implemented 15+ energy conservation measures — building a chilled‑water plant with an ultra‑efficient frictionless chiller, upgrading lighting in 40+ sites and adding advanced controls. The work is expected to reduce electricity use by about 5.4 million kWh/year (enough to power 460 homes) and cut CO2 emissions equivalent to removing 730+ cars, with Honeywell guaranteeing $17 million in savings over 15 years and reimbursing the city for any shortfall while PSL expects nearly $3 million beyond the guarantee.
