Distribution Center Upgrades Improve Shipping Capacity and Reduce Maintenance Requirements for Educational Publisher

McGraw-Hill Education needed to modernize its 500,000 sq. ft. Groveport, Ohio distribution center to increase shipping capacity and reduce maintenance demands. Honeywell (Honeywell Intelligrated) was engaged to upgrade the material‑handling system, including IntelliSort® sliding shoe sorters, motor‑driven roller (MDR) conveyors and InControlWare® software to handle both full‑case and split‑case workflows.

Honeywell Intelligrated implemented a complete system: a high‑speed full‑case rack (65 cases/min), ten single‑level split‑case pick modules (35 cases/min), a central take‑away conveyor network, IntelliSort sortation to seven palletizing lanes and four packing lines, and automated weight/quality checks. Honeywell started the system three weeks ahead of schedule, enabling peak‑season training; the result was increased throughput and more efficient, lower‑maintenance operations with measurable capacity and process improvements across receiving, packing and returns.
