Case Study: Major Oil and Gas Offshore Operator protects ICS assets and reduces cyber risk with Honeywell’s PCN Hardening Service

A Honeywell Case Study

Preview of the Major Oil and Gas Offshore Operator Company Case Study

Cyber-attacks and data breaches are inevitable. Thus, having preventative controls, visibility and effective alerts are critical

Major Oil and Gas Offshore Operator Company, a Middle Eastern offshore operator, sought to harden its industrial control system (ICS) Windows environment to reduce attack surface, remove unnecessary functions, patch vulnerabilities, and meet regulatory controls. The customer engaged Honeywell and selected Honeywell’s PCN Hardening Service to provide a structured, certified approach rather than an ad-hoc hardening effort.

Honeywell’s PCN Hardening Service — delivered by trained cybersecurity consultants — applied tested security settings to domain controllers and Experion® servers/stations, enforced consistent domain policies, and enabled single‑click disabling of unwanted services. The engagement accelerated implementation versus ad-hoc methods (avoiding the typical several-hours-per-node effort), helped the customer follow CIS hardening guidelines, improved industrial cybersecurity maturity, and materially reduced the risk and potential impact of security incidents.
