A Honeywell Case Study
Chevron Oronite, a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation and operator of the large Oak Point additives plant, faced aging distributed control systems, workforce turnover, and the need to preserve intellectual property while advancing digital capabilities. To address obsolescence and improve batch automation, Chevron Oronite partnered with Honeywell, leveraging Honeywell TotalPlant solutions including Experion PKS, Enhanced High Performance Process Manager (EHPM), ControlEdge UOC and DynAMo alarm management.
Honeywell implemented a phased, five‑year migration—upgrading HPMs to EHPMs, integrating legacy TPS controllers into Experion, virtualizing control components, and deploying DynAMo and Honeywell Trace for alarm and configuration management. The program (phases begun 2014–2017 and continuing toward a 2021 rollout) has delivered clearer change-tracking, reduced alarm floods, improved abnormal situation management and operator effectiveness, streamlined data flow to historians, and a unified, future-ready control platform that supports data-driven decisions.
