Chevron FPSO Vessel Achieves Safe, On-time Startup with Honeywell’s Simulation Solution

Chevron faced the challenge of bringing the massive Agbami FPSO into safe, on-time operation while the vessel was still being built and operators needed to be fully trained before commissioning. To meet this need Chevron partnered with Honeywell and deployed Honeywell’s UniSim simulation solution (UniSim Operations Suite) to create a lifelike, customized operator training simulator that reflected the FPSO’s subsea, topside, hull and offloading systems.

Honeywell worked with DSME to adapt the FPSO design into a training and simulation platform delivered to Chevron’s Nigeria training center for site acceptance testing. The Honeywell UniSim-based simulator verified DCS and safety-system integrity before commissioning, prepared operators for day-one startup, and allowed realistic upset scenario training—yielding smoother daily operations, measurable additional production days, cumulative cost savings and a reported return on investment in under one year.
