Robotics Provides 114-Year-Old Manufacturer 55 Percent Productivity Gain

JTM Products, a 114-year-old, family-owned manufacturer of Murphy’s tire lubricants and Phoenix pipe joint lubricants, needed to expand into a new 70,000 sq ft facility but faced material-handling limits: slow, heavy manual palletizing of 25–40 lb pails and cases constrained throughput, floor space and staffing while posing ergonomic and safety concerns for an aging workforce.

JTM installed a Honeywell Intelligrated Alvey robotic palletizing cell (Motoman robot with a vacuum end-effector) that handles both pails and cases, multiple pallet patterns and pallet sizes in one compact system. The solution freed floor space, avoided adding personnel, improved ergonomics, and boosted productivity about 55%—now processing roughly 200,000 pails and 150,000 cases per year (operating at ~65% capacity), shortening payback and enabling future growth.
