Preview of the Molson Coors Case Study

Canada’s largest beer plant transforms its end-of-line packaging capabilities with a high-tech palletizing systems upgrade

Molson Coors Canada’s Toronto Brewery was expanding can production and found its 1970s-era palletizers could no longer keep up with rising volumes, safety standards or the canning line’s high speeds and frequent product changeovers. The plant needed a simple, reliable, high-throughput palletizing solution that would handle many SKUs, improve operator safety and free up floor space.

After a vendor evaluation the brewery installed two Intelligrated Alvey 943 automatic palletizing cells (via Intelligrated Limited), replacing six old machines. The upgrade nearly doubled palletizing throughput from 105 to 190 cases/min, cut product damage/shrinkage to almost zero, reduced changeover times to minutes, recovered about 1,000 pallet positions of warehouse space, and delivered a smooth, safety-focused transition with strong supplier support.
