hCaptcha, a drop-in replacement for reCAPTCHA, needed fast, automatic observability across its Python and JavaScript microservices running on Kubernetes, Redis, and PostgreSQL. Because part of its service is a JavaScript library embedded in customer websites, the team needed to spot captcha-session problems immediately, respond quickly, and drill into traces to determine whether issues were in customer code or the hCaptcha service itself.
Using Honeycomb and its Beelines, including the Honeycomb Beeline for Python, hCaptcha gained automatic traces, timings, and quality events that made it easy to investigate slowdowns, timeouts, and user-experience issues. With Honeycomb, the team identified problems like unclosed database connections, monitored new releases, and could quickly ship fallback captchas or contact customers; the result was better operational responsiveness, faster diagnosis, and more insight into captcha friction and user experience.
