Biba, the company behind a suite of mobile games that bring kids outdoors, needed a way to quickly instrument its rewritten backend and gain clear visibility into performance across its Google Cloud-based stack. With speed critical for its AR app and limited access to logs in hosted infrastructure, the team turned to Honeycomb for better observability into user experience and backend latency.

Using Honeycomb Beelines for Go and Node.js, Biba automatically instrumented its services with rich traces and timing data, allowing engineers to rapidly identify slow routes and drill into the root cause of performance issues. With Honeycomb, they discovered an unoptimized database query and improved response time from about 1 second to 200 ms, while also boosting performance in other routes.
