A Homeless Link Case Study
Nightstop (run by Caring in Bristol) provides emergency host-family accommodation for 16–25‑year‑olds at risk of or already sleeping rough in Bristol. After a local Nightstop project closed in 2010 the small charity needed funding and capacity to pilot and scale a service; Homeless Link administered the Homelessness Transition Fund and Future Ready support that helped them develop and formalise the Nightstop service.
Homeless Link’s funding enabled Nightstop to employ staff, recruit and train a 32-strong host network and deliver emergency placements through its Host Network model; in its first year the project supported 136 young people, provided 456 host nights and secured longer-term accommodation for 61 clients, with only one person later reported sleeping rough. The Homeless Link‑supported grant of £115,075 helped Nightstop build evidence and capacity to win a subsequent £500,000 Big Lottery award, demonstrating clear measurable impact and sustainability.
