Bringing World Cultural Treasures Back to Life with Hololight Stream

The City of Palmyra, an ancient cultural heritage site destroyed in 2017, sought to digitally recreate its lost treasures. A developer, Zaid Zaim, created a mixed reality app to bring the city back to life but faced performance challenges. The high-polygon 3D models caused mobile XR devices like the HoloLens 2 to lag or crash, preventing a photorealistic experience. He turned to the vendor Hololight for a solution.

The solution implemented was Hololight's Hololight Stream, a remote rendering solution. This technology was integrated as a plugin, allowing the app to stream the entire experience. This enabled the high-polygon models to run on a HoloLens 2 without any performance issues, lags, or crashes. The result was a fully interactive, photorealistic app that successfully preserves the memory of Palmyra in immense detail.
