Case Study: Mortenson reduces reality capture time by 80% with HoloBuilder

A HoloBuilder Case Study

Preview of the Mortenson Case Study

Mortenson reduced time spent on reality capture efforts by 80% and was able to learn how to use HoloBuilder’s JobWalk app in minutes

Mortenson, a general contractor and real estate developer, needed a faster way to capture and share 360° construction progress on complex projects like the $18M renovation of the Armerding Center for Music and the Arts at Wheaton College. Their previous workflow for creating digital tours was cumbersome, relying on multiple cameras, software tools, and a custom in-house app, and it still took hours to produce only a small set of usable images. HoloBuilder and its JobWalk app were introduced to simplify this process.

Using HoloBuilder’s JobWalk app, Mortenson was able to capture 360° photos quickly and update progress weekly across the project’s 50 rooms, with updates taking about 30 seconds per image. The solution made it easy for field staff to document in-wall progress and share status with the owner and consultants, eliminating many site visits and reducing reality capture time by 80%. HoloBuilder also helped Mortenson create a long-term digital deliverable for the owner, while making the process accessible enough that anyone could learn it in minutes.
