A HOK Case Study
The State of California required a new, secure, and sustainable civic office building in Sacramento to house legislative and executive staff, including the governor, while also serving as a public space that encourages civic engagement. HOK provided architecture, sustainable design, and planning services to address this challenge.
HOK designed a net-zero energy and LEED-NC Platinum certified building featuring a unique layout with central "great rooms" and interconnecting stairs to foster interaction. The high-performance facade balances security with energy efficiency and provides abundant natural light. The solution resulted in a landmark civic building that promotes well-being and public engagement, earning multiple awards for design and sustainability.
