A Hogan Assessments Case Study
The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), operator of more than 175 hotels including the Taj brand, was facing a financial crisis in 2014 with high turnover, low employee engagement, weaker guest satisfaction, and annual losses of about $80 million. To help address the challenge, Hogan Assessments worked with IHCL’s HR team and ThreeFish Consulting to evaluate the company’s general managers using Hogan personality assessments.
Hogan Assessments supported IHCL in mapping a new leadership competency model to assessment results and building personalized development plans through a 9-month leadership program focused on business acumen and staff empowerment. The effort improved engagement, reduced turnover, and increased guest satisfaction, and by 2018 IHCL reported a net profit of $14.5 million, nearly $100 million better than four years earlier. IHCL’s stock also rose from 56 INR in January 2014 to 145 INR in January 2020, reflecting the broader business turnaround driven by Hogan Assessments’ solution.
