How Expanse Energy Solutions Increased HDHP Participation By 115% While Enhancing Overall Perception Of Benefits

Expanse Energy Solutions, a Houston-based leader in oil, gas, and energy services with 550 benefit-eligible employees, needed a better way to communicate benefits across multiple locations. Despite offering a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) to help control healthcare costs, employees continued to favor the PPO plan because they did not fully understand their options. Expanse Energy Solutions partnered with Hodges-Mace to improve benefits education and enrollment support.

Hodges-Mace replaced HR-led group meetings with one-to-one benefit counseling and provided implementation support, communications, logistics, staffing, and platform testing for Expanse Energy Solutions’ enrollment process. The results were strong: HDHP participation increased from 20% to 43%, a 115% increase, 93% of employees said they better understood the HDHP, 56% reported greater appreciation of their benefits, and Accident Insurance participation rose 54%.
