Texas School Makes Community Service a Priority

Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas—a 3,400‑student campus where nearly 1,500 students participate in the Spartans Out Serving (SOS) community‑service program—faced growing administrative strain as volunteers logged roughly 35,000 service hours in 2010/11. Until then all hours were tracked on paper in binders, creating end‑of‑semester backlogs for teacher sponsors and parent volunteers who had to manually review and approve thousands of entries.

The school implemented x2VOL, a web‑based service‑tracking system that lets students sign up, schedule, log and get approvals online. The platform eliminated paper, sped approvals, reduced errors, and smoothed sponsor workload—giving students real‑time records for college and scholarships, cutting the end‑of‑term rush, and helping the program maintain high participation and accountability while continuing to recognize seniors who meet service thresholds.
