Jefferson County Public Schools (Jeffco), a large Colorado district serving about 86,500 students in the Denver metro area, faced a statewide mandate for Individual Career & Academic Plans (ICAPs) and the practical challenges of paper-based plans: limited functionality, hard-to-update records, poor parent communication, and difficulty tracking completion across many schools.

Jeffco implemented Naviance—integrating it with their student information system and using built-in tasks, curriculum, parent sign-off, and detailed reporting—to streamline planning from seventh grade onward, boost family engagement, and track progress. As a result, ICAP completion climbed from 80% to 93% over three years, the district is approaching full completion, and now uses custom surveys to measure the plans’ meaningfulness and target interventions.
