Standard Life, a Montreal-based insurance company with 425 employees across IT, operations, development and telecommunications, needed a better way to track time spent on multiple internal projects and connect that data with Microsoft Project. The company wanted to reduce paperwork, improve time tracking, and get more accurate visibility into actual hours versus budgets while managing projects ranging from $1 million to $8 million.

HMS Software implemented TimeControl timesheet software, which let employees enter hours once, send them through supervisor approval, and transfer the data into MS Project for project tracking and reporting. HMS Software’s solution reduced re-entry work, cut down on paperwork, improved control over time sheets and consultant billing, and gave managers a real-time view of project status and employee compliance. Standard Life also gained faster accounting reports and better comparisons of projected versus actual costs.
