Canadair Defense Systems Division Integrates Timekeeping And Scheduling For More Effective Project Control

Bombardier Aerospace’s Canadair Defense Systems Division needed to replace several disconnected timesheet systems with a single, easy-to-use solution that could support both salaried and hourly employees, validate charge codes instantly, and integrate with Open Plan for schedule and project control. The existing setup created duplicate effort, unsynchronized data, and too many reports, while the CF-18 defense program required tight control over labor actuals, costs, and reporting.

HMS Software provided TimeControl, modifying it to meet Canadair’s specific requirements and integrating it with Open Plan and financial systems. The new system centralized timesheet data for more than 650 employees, handled 2,500 to 3,000 line items per week and over 40,000 job numbers, and eliminated invalid entries through daily validation against schedules. HMS Software and Bombardier phased the rollout in gradually, and the result was a single master source for timekeeping reports, faster error correction, and more timely management visibility into labor usage and project performance.
