A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) faced the monumental challenge of building a scalable Big Data platform to support Aadhaar — a national ID program with 1.3 billion records, ~37 TB of new data per month, unstructured biometrics and transactional feeds, and a requirement for both online and offline analytics. Hitachi Vantara was engaged to deliver a robust Big Data architecture and BI capability to ingest, integrate and validate this diverse and massive data set.
Hitachi Vantara implemented a 150‑node Hadoop-based platform (MapR distribution) with Pentaho PDI for data integration and the Pentaho BI platform for reporting and analytics, enabling business-rule driven transformations and large-scale validations. The solution delivered a comprehensive BI and analytics environment, supported authentication and validation at national scale, and now serves more than 5,000 vendor agencies while handling the projected data volumes and analytics needs.
