UCLH Transforms Patient Data To Support Digitalization Goals

UCLH (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), which operates six hospitals and treats over one million patients a year, needed to transform diverse current and legacy patient records into HL7 format to migrate to a single electronic health record (EHRS). Hitachi Vantara was engaged to deliver a cost‑effective, rapid solution using its Pentaho Data Integration platform and Migration Services to meet tight timescales and interoperability requirements.

Hitachi Vantara designed, developed and tested a bespoke Pentaho‑based solution in four weeks, delivering a custom Pentaho connector and a user‑friendly GUI and embedding two Pentaho consultants with UCLH’s data engineering team. The Hitachi Vantara implementation standardized multiple datasets into HL7, minimized cost and complexity, supported an on‑time EHRS go‑live, and provided a repeatable process so UCLH can transform additional legacy data formats in future.
