Turkish Mobile Phone Operator Reduces Cost, Improves Performance With Hitachi Storage and Software

Turkcell, a leading Turkish mobile operator, needed to reduce its data footprint, cut rapidly rising opex, and boost application performance while consolidating aging storage across three data centers. To meet these goals, Turkcell engaged Hitachi Vantara and selected enterprise storage and software solutions, including Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP), Hitachi NAS Platform (HNAS) and Hitachi management and tiering software.

Hitachi Vantara implemented VSP, HNAS and Hitachi software (Command Director, Dynamic Tiering, Dynamic Provisioning and related tools), migrating 1.7 PB and 200+ hosts and consolidating 17 systems down to 7. The deployment cut power from 354 kVA to 78 kVA, reduced disk count from 10,215 to 5,744 and rack space from 63 to 22, while improving the fraud app’s average response time from 20 ms to 4 ms and raising IOPS from 20K to 70K; Hitachi Vantara’s Command Director also delivered improved monitoring and reporting.
