A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
The Telecommunications Service Provider needed to build a cloud storage and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) to unify terminal management, improve security and reliability, and reduce acquisition and operating costs. Key requirements included a tiered storage architecture that reused existing heterogeneous storage and support for a standard OS image for streamed/linked-clone desktops. To meet these goals the customer selected Hitachi Vantara and its Hitachi Unified Storage VM (HUS VM) and Hitachi NAS Platform (HNAS) 3080 technologies.
Hitachi Vantara delivered a SAN/NAS cloud storage solution that virtualized existing arrays into a centrally managed shared pool, used HUS VM to accelerate VDI workloads (including SSDs to address boot storms), and deployed HNAS for high-performance unstructured data sharing. The deployment produced measurable gains: roughly 2× the performance of competing systems and a 50% reduction in upfront storage investment, while consolidating storage, improving VDI responsiveness and scalability, and enabling flexible tiering and easier management.
