Shaping the Future of Energy With Storage Modernization

St.Galler Stadtwerke, the Swiss regional utility provider serving electricity, water, gas, and heating to more than 80,000 residents, needed to modernize its critical IT environment to improve reliability, scalability, and resilience while preparing for digitalization and IoT-driven energy services. The company wanted to consolidate two separate operational environments, reduce complexity, and streamline management of its mission-critical infrastructure with Hitachi Vantara products.

Working with implementation partner LC Systems, St.Galler Stadtwerke deployed Hitachi Vantara’s VSP E590 storage, Advanced Server DS120 systems, and Hitachi Ops Center tools, along with Veeam for backup and recovery. The new platform delivered about 50% lower infrastructure costs, 2.7x storage efficiency for production data, 10x savings for backup data, 4x faster backups, and 6x faster provisioning of new systems, while improving availability and supporting future smart city innovation.
