RTC Southern Nevada Protects Employees with Thermal Imaging Solution from Hitachi Vantara

Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) Southern Nevada needed a fast, non-disruptive way to protect drivers, mechanics, contractors and visitors from COVID‑19 exposure given staff contact with hundreds of people daily. To meet that need they turned to Hitachi Vantara’s solution — AT&T IoT - Video Intelligence powered by Lumada Video Insights from Hitachi Vantara — to implement thermal screening across their facilities.

Hitachi Vantara’s thermal imaging system uses thermal cameras, machine learning and onsite monitors at eight entrances across six locations to flag elevated temperatures in a second or two per person; about 600 people are screened daily (rising to an expected 1,000). The Hitachi Vantara deployment requires minimal manual intervention, preserves privacy by not storing data or displaying actual temperatures, avoids facial recognition, and has helped RTC Southern Nevada protect employees, contractors and the public while keeping foot traffic flowing.
