Rocky Mountain Health Plans Embraces Opportunity for New Data Governance Solutions

Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP), a Colorado‑based insurer serving nearly 225,000 members and over 20,000 providers, faced a fragmented data environment after its acquisition by UnitedHealthcare: subscriber enrollment, medical and pharmacy claims, and provider data lived in legacy warehouses, Microsoft Access files and flat files, requiring manual interventions and hindering governance. To address this, RMHP engaged Hitachi Vantara and chose Pentaho Data Integration (PDI) to modernize and consolidate its data processes.

Hitachi Vantara implemented PDI to ingest disparate sources into a nonpersistent staging database and load an enterprise data hub with nightly automated ETL and data quality checks. The deployment centralized integration rules, reduced manual intervention, freed analysts to focus on data discovery, and established a trusted, single source of truth—improving data transparency, governance and the organization’s ability to adapt quickly to changing reporting needs.
