A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
PI Industries, a leading Indian agro-chemical and fertilizer manufacturer, faced costly, aging IT infrastructure that could not keep pace with exponential data growth, lacked high-availability disaster recovery, and produced slow, resource‑intensive reporting. To modernize its environment and move its SAP ERP from legacy RISC/Oracle to SAP HANA, PI Industries engaged Hitachi Vantara and deployed the Hitachi Unified Compute Platform for the SAP HANA Platform (including Hitachi Compute Blade 500 and Hitachi Unified Storage VM).
Hitachi Vantara implemented a converged SAP HANA solution connected via Brocade VDX/ICX switches and a 10 Gb/sec network, with primary production replicated to a secondary site using SAP HANA Replication and backups handled by Commvault and tape. The deployment consolidated data warehouses, reduced data duplication, delivered easy scalability and lower administrative costs, and dramatically improved performance—report generation that previously took about four days now completes in three to four minutes.
