Mutual & Federal Gains Efficiency and Frees Up Crucial Resources With Hitachi Data Systems

Mutual & Federal, South Africa’s oldest short‑term insurer, faced growing data‑center demands and the need to upgrade storage capacity without disrupting core services. After evaluating multiple suppliers, Mutual & Federal chose Hitachi Vantara and its Storage Economics Strategy Service to assess consolidation and scalability and to deploy Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) with Dynamic Provisioning, Dynamic Tiering and Remote Replication.

Hitachi Vantara replaced five legacy arrays with two VSP systems, virtualized the environment and upgraded the SAN, enabling a smooth migration and ongoing support. The result: monthly batch runs dropped from roughly 14 hours to about 4 hours on first run and now finish overnight (no longer over weekends), resources and overtime costs were reduced, and the platform provided capacity and scalability for the next 5–10 years. Measurable impacts include estimated environmental savings of over US$929,981 and a CO2 reduction of 1,749 tons (43.9%).
