Marist College Powers BYOD Revolution With Hitachi Compute Blade

Marist College Ashgrove, a Queensland private school serving 1,600 students, needed a more cost‑effective, higher‑density server platform to support a VMware‑based virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) for its Bring‑Your‑Own‑Device (BYOD) program. With aging IBM servers and a small IT team, the college sought easy‑to‑maintain hardware that would deliver performance, scalability and lower power consumption; it selected Hitachi Vantara’s Hitachi Compute Blade 500 as the core compute platform.

Hitachi Vantara implemented the Hitachi Compute Blade 500 (with implementation support from Insync Technology), enabling consolidation from 20 servers to 12 and allowing six IT staff to support up to 2,500 endpoints. The deployment reduced the hardware footprint by 40%, cut data‑center energy use by one third, and included three‑year fixed‑price maintenance to simplify costs — delivering a leaner, greener, and more manageable VDI environment for Marist College Ashgrove.
