A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
Magyar Telekom, one of Hungary’s leading communications providers, needed to keep up with explosive data growth driven by new digital services like 5G and video-on-demand. With around 6 PB of data growing at about 15% year over year, the company wanted to replace end-of-life storage and build a denser, higher-performance platform that would reduce data center footprint, improve energy efficiency, and support mission-critical applications. Magyar Telekom chose Hitachi Vantara, including Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform E1090.
Hitachi Vantara implemented Hitachi VSP E1090 arrays with NVMe drives, along with Hitachi Ops Center Administrator and Hitachi Ops Center Automator for faster provisioning and streamlined management. The results were significant: Magyar Telekom replaced 1,052 hard-disk drives with just 26 NVMe drives, cut storage footprint by 3x, reduced power and cooling needs by 4x, and achieved a 2.3x compression ratio. The new solution also delivered higher IOPS, 100% data availability, and a stronger foundation for future cloud and digital initiatives.
