Logan Aluminum Fast-Tracks Digital Transformation With Hitachi Vantara

Logan Aluminum, the largest single-can sheet facility in North America, faced a pressing need to fast-track digital transformation to stay competitive and unlock the value in its operational data. Although the plant had installed 2,000–3,000 smart sensors, it was using less than 5% of that data. To address this, Logan engaged Hitachi Vantara and leveraged its Digital Value Enablement for Manufacturing approach along with Lumada Manufacturing Insights, Lumada Video Insights and Application Services from Hitachi Vantara Global Services.

Hitachi Vantara ran a two-day Digital Envisioning workshop, built a cloud data lake and deployed Lumada solutions to eliminate silos, enable company-wide access to analytics and apply video and machine-learning insights. Logan now captures about 35,000 data points per coil for roughly 250 coils a day and has centralized that data for cross‑functional use — accelerating digital transformation, optimizing production and machine performance, improving safety and quality, enabling predictive maintenance and strengthening competitive advantage.
