A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
Elecnor Deimos, the Elecnor Group’s aerospace and technology division responsible for the Deimos‑2 high‑resolution satellite, faced the challenge of ingesting, processing and long‑term archiving very large satellite images. They needed unified storage that could present files via NFS for simultaneous intermediate processing and provide scalable iSCSI block storage for archival growth, while meeting strict performance and availability requirements. Elecnor Deimos selected Hitachi Vantara (deploying Hitachi Unified Storage 130 and Hitachi NAS Platform) to meet these needs.
Hitachi Vantara delivered a unified, three‑tier storage architecture (processor cache, virtualization tier and mission file) built on HUS 130 and HNAS with partner Altia Consultores, providing high availability, fast NFS performance and scalable capacity up to 1.4 PB. The solution currently supports ~100 TB (expected to grow to 600 TB), matched competitor performance with less than half the disks in tests, enabled image delivery to customers in under two hours, reduced cost per GB, and delivered a reported 100% return on investment.
