A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
Karolinska Institutet’s Centre for Translational Microbiome Research (CTMR) needed a faster, more flexible way to process large volumes of DNA sequencing data for medical research and COVID-19 testing. Working with **Hitachi Vantara**, the team wanted to move beyond slow shared HPC queues and limited static infrastructure so it could analyze data in-house and respond more quickly to unpredictable research workloads.
**Hitachi Vantara** implemented a converged infrastructure solution using **Hitachi Unified Compute Platform CI**, **Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform F370**, **Hitachi Unified Compute Platform Advisor**, and **VMware virtualization**. The result was an agile, modular in-house HPC platform with automated provisioning and easier system management, enabling CTMR to process larger batches of sequencing data faster, generate insights with much shorter turnaround times, and support the National Pandemic Centre’s COVID-19 testing efforts at a scale of about **45,000 PCR-based tests per week**.
