A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
The IT Service Center of the Free State of Bavaria is the central IT provider for the state administration and specialist courts, supporting e‑government services such as BayernPortal. Faced with roughly 60% annual data growth driven by high‑resolution aerial imagery, a planned digital state archive and expanded online services, the organization needed more scalable, secure and cost‑transparent storage — and partnered with Hitachi Vantara to deploy an object‑based “digitalization storage” solution using Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) and Hitachi Data Ingestor (HDI).
Hitachi Vantara implemented HCP and HDI across multiple sites, providing scalable object storage with S3/OpenStack interfaces, local caching at remote offices, versioned and overwrite‑proof protection, and multi‑tenant compliance controls. The result: nearly 10× higher storage density (from 0.65 PB/m² to 6.25 PB/m²), a significant reduction in storage costs per gigabyte, faster and more secure data access, accelerated administrative processes and the capacity to support large‑scale digitalization initiatives across Bavaria.
